Thanks for your reply but I do not agree. It´s still ´urban´ nature. The same with winter birds on a peanut string or a woodpecker on peanut butter. Same thing and still nature.
Your taste is different and that´s fine of course but the fact that it´s not nature photography is ´in my eyes´ not right.

as I said, the situation itself is arranged, not so much the squirrel. The squirrel follows whatever opportunity it will find and acts "naturally" when it gets braver. My point is the bucket. Of course you could find a bucket in an urban environment - but full of nuts? This is, in my opinion, not a "natural urban environment", but an environment which is set up speciffically for this photograph (like the hunk of meet on a snowy meadow for fighting buzzards or the setup in a studio). In this case, the artificial effect on me is even higher, because there would "naturally" be no bucket full of nuts anywhere (compared to the dead animal on a snowy meadow, which happens in wintertimes). A photograph of the squirrel in your garden - why not? Could be a nice image in their "natural" habitat.
Just to make sure: these are just my two cent. My taste is different, which doesn´t mean that it is the only one. The image is well done and the squirrel cute, it´s just not my interpretation of nature photography.

You say it's not natural but please tell me why. Most red squirrels live on camping sites and in gardens, not in forests. So what's not natural in this picture? Is this impossible in nature or the fact that I've put that bucket there?

mir geht es wie Norbert. Technisch und von den Emotionen her ein schönes Bild, was für mich jedoch zu sehr arrangiert und künstlich herbeigeführt wirkt. Das ist nicht nur bei Deinem Bild so, das geht mir auch bei den vielen arrangierten Makroaufnahmen so, die oft auch nichts mehr mit einer natürlich vorgefundenen Situation, einem natürlichen Umfeld und Verhalten zu tun haben. Für mich persönlich liegt der Reiz der Naturfotografie woanders, aber das ist natürlich Geschmackssache.

No problem Norbart, appreciate you honesty. You can't win them all. It's a matter of personal taste. It's so much fun working with these animals and for me it's a challenge to make them do things without harming/disturbing them or even letting them know I'm sitting in that hide very nearby. All they know is the sound of the shutter and they are used to that. Thanks evereyone for all the nice and useful comments.
