The gathering of thousands of Red-breasted Geese at the lakes of Durankulak and Shabla on the west coast of the Black Sea is definitely a must-see among all the wildlife events and sights in Bulgaria. The birds fly in unison in thick flocks – an impressive air show, reminding that of starlings. These lakes are practically one of the few places in the world where this endangered species can be watched, and sometimes photographed, from a close distance.
